A Special Connection to Antardwand
What are your thoughts on Antardwand?
Antardwand holds a significant place in my heart, and I take pride in having been part of this project. It was a film rich in depth and meaning, especially during a time when such narratives were scarce in the industry. The film presented a brutally honest portrayal of societal issues.
Landing the Role of an Abducted Groom
How did you secure the role of a man forced into marriage?
I owe my casting to a recommendation from Imtiaz Ali to the director, which was a huge boost for a budding actor like me. Winning a National Award for this role was the cherry on top. Interestingly, I was experiencing significant personal turmoil during the filming, which mirrored the theme of 'Antardwand' itself. Now, as a director, I appreciate the film's craftsmanship and authenticity even more.
Awareness of Groom Snatching
Were you aware of the issue of groom snatching while working on Antardwand?
The Drive to Tell Socio-Political Stories
How has your experience as a director influenced your storytelling?
As an actor, I have always gravitated towards stories that highlight socio-political issues, like Gulaal, which I co-wrote. Transitioning to directing, my goal remains the same: to tell these important stories and raise awareness without being preachy. It brings me joy to connect with audiences who resonate with my directorial work, such as Shaadisthan.
